Why Everyone Needs to Go On Vacation With Their Mother

My mom and I haven’t always had the best relationship. But the one thing we have in common is we both love beaches. So we went to Hawaii.

Your mom will always “Mom” you.

Even if you are on vacation, she will still treat you like her child. And as an adult, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. She bought the plane ticket, checked me in, sent me a packing list, and made sure to bring extra sunscreen.

Normally I hate when my mom does mom things because I’m 30 years old and strangely independent from my parents. I usually pay for them to do things and take them out for dinners. But this time, I let her be a mom. She made me dinner at the condo we BnB’d 3of the 5 nights we were there, brushed my hair when the salt water put it in knots and shared night time skin care routines with me while we watched late night movies and listened to the ocean at 10pm.

Moms always know what to say and when to say it.

I’ve had an incredibly tough year and my mom has been there for most of it. She knows the hardships I’ve been through and although we don’t talk about it much, we talked about it on vacation. I can never seem to keep my composure with her so on day 3 when she asked me So how are you REALLY doing? I lost it. Tears slowly ran down my face as I thought about the unworn wedding dress in the back of her closet and dried funeral flowers from my best friends funeral sitting on her…
